The Atrium by Ligon Flynn is tucked among the buildings in the heart of historic downtown Wilmington. Once a building housed for livery stables for the downtown community but today, The Atrium wedding venue is a contemporary urban garden and event venue. The garden is located on Second Street in the block between Market and Dock. It is one of Wilmington’s few contemporary courtyard gardens, and a truly unique location in the heart of downtown. The area is filled with natural elements, local foliage, climbing vines, brick masonry, and water combined with the clean lines of modern architecture. The space is a perfect location for couples wanting outdoor wedding images in the heart of downtown due to the open-air cathedral and picturesque secret garden.

As a wedding photographer of timeless wedding images, I had the honor of being a part of an extraordinary wedding day in early November. I personally believe North Carolina is one of the most beautiful places across the Southeast, but Wilmington in the fall is genuinely a special place to be. The air had slightly shifted from the heat of the summer, the bustling vacationers had returned to their homes, the downtown area was filled with sweet aromas from local Italian restaurants, and the streets lightly echoed with music playing nearby. The bride and groom spent the late morning with their family and wedding parties, and then shared a first look while their wedding party watched from afar with smiles. Their wedding ceremony began as the sun started to shift towards day end in the most beautiful courtyard garden. A dinner spread of all different types of pastas were served on mixed matched antique China plates from Honey Bee. After dinner, the maid of honor and best man gave toasts that left no dry eye in the house. The evening was finished with dancing the night away. It was one of the most loving and beautiful weddings I have had the privilege of being a part of.
