Located in the heart of one of Wilmington’s most charming downtown neighborhoods, stands an iconic staple for couples drawn to weddings with character and intention. Originally built in the late 1800’s, the space carries a sense of history that blends so effortlessly with Wilmington’s coastal charm and downtown energy. The original brick walls, 130-year old stained glass windows, and warm rich tones adds a one-of-a-kind experience for the Cape Fear area. And Ashley and Brandon’s Brooklyn Arts Center wedding felt like such a natural fit. Each element to their wedding day was thoughtful, deeply personal, and full of romantic spring beauty.

I met Ashley & Brandon in spring of 2025 at a fun bridal expo in downtown Wilmington. From our first conversations, I could tell they were very special people who had a deep love for each other, their family, and enjoyed all aspects of the beauty Wilmington has to offer. I remember how Ashley’s eyes glowed as she spoke about her wedding plans, as she loved character but yet still wanted romance weaved into every element of the day. Brandon couldn’t wait to make their dream wedding come true. For me personally, their wedding was genuinely one of the most unique, memorable, and heartfelt. Ashley and Brandon made sure that every single person felt seen, loved, and honored. It felt like layers that kept unfolding as the day progressed, and a wedding I am deeply honored to have been a part of.
Upon arrival, I was greeted with the comfort and nostalgia of downtown Wilmington. The soft spring sun seemed to greet the warm timeless brick laced with green vines. A short drive from the intracoastal waterways and the heart of downtown, The Brooklyn Arts Center was peaceful as the morning began. Inside, the rich hardwood floors creaked as the towering ceilings soared overhead. I remember thinking how comforting it felt. I met Ashley and her bridal party as they were having fun with hair and makeup in the bridal suite. Ashley’s mom, designed, created, and hand-stitched every aspect of Ashley’s wedding dress. There wasn’t a dry eye to be found as Ashley slipped into her gown for the very first time.
Meanwhile, located in the groomsuite, Brandon and his groomsmen enjoyed a relaxing morning. I could tell they were such a fun crowd as each had their inside jokes throughout the day. Their all black tuxes looked iconic next to the classic warm bricks in the downtown air.
Next, we made our way to the beautiful ceremony space in The Annex. Laced with soft pinks, white, and vibrant greenery, Brandon melted as he saw Ashley for the very first time walking down the aisle. Officiated by family, Ashley’s brother married them in faith under the rich sun that poured into the stain-glass windows. Following the ceremony, final portraits were taken before heading to the reception.

During cocktail hour, Ashley and Brandon joined guests to enjoy some of the best oysters I have ever tried! The warm spring sun wrapped guests in the private courtyard as everyone enjoyed decadent appetizers and cocktails. Ashley and Brandon shared a private reveal of their reception space before guests were seated. I don’t know if it was the twinkle of the disco ball overhead, and Ashley coming to tears seeing all of their hard work pay off, but it was a moment I will hold dear forever. Brandon couldn’t resist sharing a small private dance as he looked into her eyes.
Thoughtfully placed at every guest’s seats, over 150 artfully created and handwritten notes. Ashley and Brandon made every single guest feel special, loved, and honored for being a part of not only their wedding day, but also throughout their lives. Watching guests smile, laugh, and cry as they read each their cards was one of the most heartfelt moments of my wedding career to date. Each guest felt loved and a part of their wedding in some way through a such simple intimate gesture.
After dinner, special dances were shared along side knee-slapping speeches. Next, guests enjoyed a stunning three-tiered wedding cake skillfully crafted by Brandon’s sister. Additionally, guests enjoyed a full bourbon bar upstairs as dancing began. Afterwards, guests never sat still as live music played throughout the evening. As the night wound down, Ashley and Brandon shared a final dance before ending the most magical night under sparklers. It was a wedding I will never forget and I beyond honored to have been a part of.
