Maci and Tyler’s Intimate Waterfall Wedding in Alaska

Destination weddings are always filled with excitement, especially in Alaska. And Maci and Tyler’s elopement overlooking one of their favorite waterfalls did not disappoint. With over 25 miles of hiking trails, scenic views, and tranquil waters, Eklutna Lake was the perfect location for Maci and Tyler’s dream wedding. As an Anchorage wedding photographer, it was a blessing to help bring their wedding to life, and was an honor to document.

Being Oklahoma natives, Maci and Tyler traveled nearly 3,800 miles to their dream wedding location outside of Anchorage. During the early stages of wedding planning, Maci shared that her dream was to say “I-do” overlooking waterfalls and be surrounded by Alaska’s natural beauty. We planned for the perfect spot during the warm Alaskan summer with nearly 20+ hours of sunlight.

On the day of their wedding, I met up with Maci and Tyler at a local Airbnb. They enjoyed a slow morning getting ready, finished their vows, and Maci orchestrated a small “first look” of her wedding belt, which was a special gift Tyler had given her years prior. Afterward, we made our way to Thunderbird Falls to exchange vows, added a lock commemorating their wedding day overlooking the falls, and enjoyed a small hike out in the vibrant green Alaskan forest.

As the sun set high in the sky, we made our way to our final location, overlooking the beautiful mountains. Next, we selected a quiet area near the water for Maci and Tyler to share their first dance. During their first dance, the setting sun peaked out of the clouds for stunning portraits along the waterside. To conclude their evening, Maci and Tyler shared a light picnic along the waterway with pizza, cake, and champagne. It was the perfect ending to their perfect wedding day.
