Stephanie & Lamar’s Cozy Afternoon near Richmond

Located among the bucolic rolling hills near Richmond, Dover Hall Estate is a turn-key English Tudor-inspired wedding venue. The massive 38,000 square foot manor home is nestled on a 55-acre private estate in Goochland County’s equestrian country. For couples planning a Virginia wedding, Dover Hall Estate offers a setting that is both timeless and thoughtfully designed — a place where every part of the day can feel intentional. Even during the quieter seasons, it offers many cozy & luxurious options for wedding days. And oh man did I have a beautiful afternoon with Stephanie and Lamar early February after a beautiful snowfall earlier this year!

An Editorial with Stephanie & Lamar | Warm Greens & Reds at Dover Hall Estate

Upon arrival, I was greeted with a windy backcountry road. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Richmond, quiet roads and expansive forestry surrounded us from all sides in our own private estate. Fresh snow laid all around as a recent winter snowfall had touched the Richmond area a few days prior. I remember thinking how pretty the grounds looked in the sunlight as it reflected in ice crystals. I met Stephanie and Lamar in The Library. Rich dark wood surrounded us while a warm fire rolled. Located by a spiral staircase next to use, an upstairs library towered over us as they finished getting ready.

Afterwards, we made our way outside for beautiful portraits in the late afternoon sun. Stephanie glowed in the warm sunlight. Next, we headed inside to enjoy the massive reception hall (believe it or not, it was formerly a living room!) Lamar couldn’t keep his eyes off of Stephanie as they danced and shared sweet moments together. Afterwards, Stephanie and Lamar shared some cocktails before enjoying some cake. As the afternoon concluded, Stephanie and Lamar enjoyed a few more sunset portraits with an all black vintage Rolls-Royce. It was the perfect ending to an amazing editorial.

Your Wedding Day at Dover Hall Estate

From the moment you arrive at Dover Hall Estate, the beautiful architecture sets the tone. The grand stone exterior and manicured grounds create a sense of timelessness, while the interior spaces feel both luxurious and welcoming.

One of the most striking areas of the property is the front entrance and courtyard. With its symmetrical design and classic stonework, it creates a stunning backdrop for portraits regardless the time of year.

Inside, for the bridal suite, my personal favorite is the Queen Elizabeth Suite as it boasts tons of natural light and offers such an iconic look that you can only find at Dover. The Billiard Room and Library offers a unique place for grooms to get ready and enjoy the morning. The Reception Hall offers a completely different feel with gigh ceilings, tall windows, and neutral tones allow for a variety of design styles while maintaining an elevated atmosphere.

Outside, The Bluestone Terrace and Cobblestone Courtyard provide elegant entertaining spaces for you and your guests. The Garden, Reflection Pool, and Glass Hall offer additional outdoor spaces for ceremonies, entertainment, and reception spaces.
