Classic Meets Playful: A Timeless Fall Celebration at an Estate Wedding Venue in North Carolina

Dimples & Pastels at The House on Barber Mill

Rooted in historical elegance and sweet Southern charm, The House on Barber Mill welcomes timeless classic love stories in the countryside of Clayton. Originally built in the 1800’s, the estate wedding venue was remodeled to fit present-day couples. The manor home blends the perfect balance of historical character, modern touches, and nearby amenities surrounding the Raleigh area. The House on Barber Mill serves as the perfect setting couples looking for estate wedding venues in North Carolina, and was the perfect location for Joelena & Richard this past fall. I was honored to be their wedding photographer as they entered their next chapter together. And on a personal note as a small business owner, it was full circle moment for myself as I stood in the lawn under Maggie as the fall sun met us along each part of the day.

Joelena & Richard | A Joy-Filled Fall Wedding Celebration

Early on warm fall morning, I greeted Joelena as she was finishing her hair and makeup in the bridal suite. Each bridesmaid helped Joelena as it was time to slip on her wedding gown. The original wood floors gave warmth and historical charm under them as they sang “Pink Pony Club”. Across the hall in the groomsuite, Richard and his crew enjoyed football highlights and cornhole on the stunning wrap around porch. Outside each room, located outside each door frame, hung hooks that caught my attention. To the modern eye, they look out of place. But its historical importance was quite significant, as they were the version of modern electricity of the 1800’s, and where oil lamps where hung to light the home.

As Joelena’s mom laced up her wedding gown, time seemed to stand still. Next, Joelena enjoyed a special moment with her father, and soon-to-be father-in-law. Afterwards, we made our way to the garden ceremony overlooking the fountain. Richard set eyes on Joelena as she entered the ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family. Joelena’s infectious laughter and glowing dimples melted Richard’s heart all over again as they said vows to each other as the fall sun began to set.

Joelena & Richard’s Reception

Afterwards, as the fall sun began to set behind the trees, we explored the grounds for their portraits. On the edge of the property, in a garden of greenery and wildflowers, we picked the perfect spot for glowing sunset portraits. During knee slapping toasts, Joelena & Richard laughed so hard they nearly fell out of their chairs! Following dinner, everyone hit the dance floor where the celebration continued. It was a night I will never forget and I am so unbelievably honored to have been able to serve Joelena & Richard on their wedding day!

On A Personal Note……From a Small Business Owner

As a small business owner, each and every wedding does hold a special place in my heart. But being at The House on Barber Mill was a true full circle moment for me. Over three years ago I started JoLynn for couples who felt they were underrepresented in their wedding journey. And my very first photography event I held was under the magnolia tree, Maggie, at The House on Barber Mill.

Any business owner will tell you that you have no idea where the road will take you, but every day you put one foot forward on the path in front of you that day. Many days you don’t understand where the road will lead you, and that was so true for me over three years ago. As someone who self identifies as a late bloomer, being under a tree that blooms only when conditions are right, I smiled for myself. For the version of myself that didn’t know where the path would take me, for the version of me who is proud for not stopping, and for other small business owners who fight everyday as well for their own version of a dream.
