A Modern Romantic Wedding at The Woolen Mill Fredericksburg

Kayla & Tyler’s Summer Wedding in Historic Old World Charm

Overlooking the Rappahannock River, The Woolen Mill Fredericksburg stands as a true piece of history in Virginia. From producing woolen goods in the 1800’s to the largest motor lodge on the East Coast in the 1920’s, its rich history has served many families across the South East. Today, it provides modern romantic couples with unique historical character as they enter the next chapter of their lives. It was the perfect wedding location for Kayla and Tyler as local character was one of the top priorities for their wedding day.

I had the honor of spending a gorgeous sunny Saturday with Kayla and Tyler earlier this summer. Their sweet personalities combined with the rich warmth of the historical mill was truly a magical wedding day. As beautiful as the venue was, nothing could compare to the look Kayla had in her eye for Tyler all day long!

Kayla & Tyler’s Wedding Day | Woolen Mill Fredericksburg

We met up with Kayla as she was finishing her hair and makeup in the bridal suite. The original wood floors creaked under the hustle and bustle of the morning. Located on the floor beneath us side, Tyler and his crew were watching shows on Netflix and enjoying themselves. I remember thinking that I bet the builders of the venue would have never imagined such form of entertainment back in the 1800’s! As Kayla slipped into her dress, time seemed to slow down. Next, Kayla enjoyed a special moment with her father as they exchanged gifts and shared sentimental letters with each other.

As the morning concluded, Tyler set eyes on Kayla in her stunning wedding gown as she entered the ceremony with her father. The rich glow of the brick walls surrounded everyone as they said their vows with their closest friends and family. Afterwards, as the summer sun began to set, we explored the grounds for their portraits. The calming water could be heard around us from the river as sweet faces watched from the windows above of the reception area. During tear jerking toasts, Kayla and Tyler smiled and laughed as dinner began. Following dinner, everyone hit the dance floor as the celebration continued. It was a special night for all, and I am glad to have been a part of it!

The History of Woolen Mill Fredericksburg

Originally built in the mid 1800’s, The Woolen Mill Fredericksburg served as a hospital for surrounding Virginia. Following the hospitals success, it was converted to a woolen mill several years later. At the turn of the 19th century, silk imported from Italy was spun by women in the area. Across the street, the Wakefield Hotel severed as a popular spot for travelers heading from Maine to Florida down historic Route 1.

Today, what is known as the Mill District, the venue is preserved close to its original structures as a one of a kind venue that combines historic charm with modern love stories. The Woolen Mill Fredericksburg can accomodate 200 guests above the Rappahannock River, a cozy chapel, and industrial character. It is the perfect venue for couples wanting industrial charm close to home.
