A Wilmington Countryside Modern Barn Venue
As the first notes of summer hit this year, I had the honor of spending time at The English Country Barn of the Carolinas. Located a short drive from Wilmington and nestled in the countryside of Magnolia, sits an English barn wedding venue with a “twist” on Southern hospitality. As I pulled into the 300+ acre farmstead full of woodland trails, I was greeted with the quiet sounds of country air and countless horses in the pasture grazing. As North Carolina based wedding photographer, it was pure bliss to see the perfect mix of indoor and outdoor spaces for couples in the Wilmington area. It was also hard to believe I was a short drive from the beaches of Wilmington!
The English Country Barn is wrapped in Carolina charm, but its heritage is deeply rooted in old English culture. Originally from the South of England, venue owners Teresa and Ian left the UK in 2005. They set to bring something different while embracing and respecting the local community’s values within their venue. By meshing English traditions and heritage with Southern culture, Teresa and Ian created the perfect modern barn for couples looking for a unique venue near Wilmington for their wedding day.
The English Country Barn | Indoor Spaces
As I stepped inside the barn, I was greeted with 30-foot soaring ceilings, exposed beams, and massive glowing chandeliers overhead. The indoor ceremony space in the Westminster Room offered the perfect location for indoor seating. Next, I made my way to the reception hall where custom live-edge banquet tables lined the room with matching sweetheart tables. Following the reception hall, I made my way to the balcony overhead where 200 guests would fit comfortably for dinner and dancing. Finally, the climate-controlled Wessex Chapel offered an additional indoor ceremony option for larger audiences. After touring each indoor location, the outdoor grounds were explored.
The English Country Barn | Outdoor Spaces
The English Country Barn offers multiple outdoor wedding ceremony options for couples wanting to spend time in the coastal air. First, I explored the three-tiered outdoor wedding chapel, Somerset Gardens. Relaxing seating and year-round flower beds lined the views for a tranquil experience next to the cornfields and the sound of rolling water from the pond behind us. Next, I ventured over to the backside of the property in The Enchanted Woods. As I walked, I was greeted by playful horses grazing in the pasture as I entered the wooded pathways. At last I entered a double wooden door that unveiled a gorgeous enchanted wooden chapel as the sun peered through the trees. Lastly, handcrafted cocktails, deciate desserts, and creamy wedding cake was enjoyed followed by caricature drawings on the patio.
The English Country Barn offers various options for couples searching for a venue in the Wilmington area.
